I love coming up with integrative writing projects! It's challenging for me and the students.
Some second grade common core writing standards I try to cover are...
LA.2.W.CCR.4 - [Anchor Standard] - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Students will present their books and use expression when they read the dialogue.
Reading:
LA.2.RL.2.6 - [Grade Level Standard] - Acknowledge differences in the points of view of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud.
LA.2.W.CCR.7 - [Anchor Standard] - Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
LA.2.W.2.8 - [Grade Level Standard] - Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
I think this one has been my favorite so far…

The students wrote great pieces about what life was like as they traveled from England to America using research and books.

This project was so fun because the students picked a runaway food to be and wrote about who chased them. They were fun and the students included a lot of great details!
I love the second one because it makes the students solve a problem using their research on the regions.
You could use this idea for any state.
